Mt. Kailash Tour


Tibet is known as the roof of the world, Tibet, the mystical land of fantasy is the heart of Buddhist culture and philosophy and the most mesmerizing destinations of the world today as it seems as reserved as ever.  It is not only the geographical and natural enchants but also a long historical culture and religion that appeal the foreigners to visit Tibet at least once in a lifetime. Rich and beautiful land with an average altitude over 4,000m (13,120ft) above sea level possessing more than fifty peaks above7,000m (22,960ft), Tibet is home to eleven Himalayan mountains over 8,000m (26,240ft). Bordered by China, India, Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Burma and Kashmir Tibet is home of over two million people of rich ancient cultures. 
Spiritual traditions, temples and monasteries, lakes and rivers, and mighty snow clad peaks are just a few of the intoxicating wonders to be experienced by adventurous travelers who get the opportunity to visit this land.  You will be enthused by watching how pilgrims brave hostile weather and altitude to visit the holy Mt. Kailash and how they prostrate in the flagstone country yard of the Jokhang, offering incense as they circumambulate the holy Buddhists sites to pay veneration to the Shakyamuni.
 This Mt. Kailash Tour is our effort to provide you the best travelling experiences while travelling in Tibet. This tour starts from the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu. You will explore the Mansarovar Lake situated between two snow-covered mountain ranges. And you trek to the fascinating Mt. Kailas. You then trek to Everest Base Camp and finally come back to Kathmandu via Kodari.

Detail Itinerary


Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representative welcomes you and assists you to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu, after freshen up; you will be provided the necessary information regarding the trip in Nepal along with our fellow trekking staff for your adventurous trip. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Rest and prepare day for assignment & briefing.
We will collect you on the morning for guided trip of cultural word heritage sites in Kathmandu valley which is rich for its Newa culture and temples; including several places of pilgrimages sites for Hindus and Buddhists , the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the world biggest Stuppa; Boudhhanath, Swoyambhunath Stupa (monkey temple) and historical Kathmandu Durbar Square with unique architectural temple, and incredible Kumari widely known as Living Goddess in Basantapur of central kathmandu. There will be meeting with other members along with our fellow trekking staff at our office for a pre-trip discussion in the evening.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Nyalam (3,700 m) via Kodari Border (720 m)
Take a great drive to Nyalam enjoying the scenic landscapes and the magnificent view of high Himalayan ranges. A few hours of drive via Kodari (Nepal -Tibet Border) will bring us to Nyalam where we stop for the night.

Day 04: Nyalam: Acclimatization Day
This day is spared for acclimatization which is compulsory for this tour. This day helps you to acclimatize your body in the elevation of 3,750m and to fit for the rest journey. Your guide will be there to check the physical condition of yours and decide your guide will decide guest whether one should continue further or not.

Day 05: Drive to Saga (4600 m/15088 ft) 245kms drive
We start to drive from Nyalam to Saga about 245kms away and should take approximately four hours to reach there. We will drive over the sandy and rocky land of Tibet, along the famed Brahmaputra River and also cross the Lalung La pass to reach saga where we stop for the night.

Day 06: Drive to Paryang (4500m/14760ft) 230kms drive
Today we drive from Saga to Paryang, you weave your way through small dusty town of Zhongba amidst enchanting panoramic views. We drive through wondrous valleys, several clean watered rills, amazing pasturages for yaks and sheep. Rare and occasional approach of some nomads, traders and locals is not uncommon we proceed tour viewing  landscapes, snowy mountain peaks, sand dunes and no doubt typical geographical diversities in Tibetan lands our stop will be at Paryang another promising town of Tibet.

Day 07: Paryang to Lake Mansarovar (4558m/14950ft), 277kms drive
We take a long drive to holy Lake Manasarovar. This route penetrates the very essence of Manasarovar Lake amid extraordinary landscape. As you near this breathtaking sacred lake, historic Chiu Monastery becomes visible on the North West shore of the lake. The lake is situated between two snow-covered mountain ranges is extremely beautiful. It is an important part for the Tibetan pilgrims to orbit and take a bath in the lake. 

Day 08: Mansarovar to Darchen (4663m/15294ft) 40kms drive
After a hearty breakfast we go for walk and sightseeing by the holy lake Manasarovar. Then we will be heading towards Darchen which is about 36 km to the northwest direction. It is considered as a base camp for the Holy Kailash Parikrama. The Kailash is the holy place for four religions: the Hinduism, Buddhism, Jains and Bon. Overnight at Darchen.

Day 09: Drive to Yama Dwar (Darboche) 8kms drives & start trekking to Deraphuk (4860m/15940ft)
On this day we take a short drive to Tarpuche from where the hiking starts encirclement of Holy Mount Kailash.  It is one of the exciting days walking along the beautiful rocky cliffs; waterfalls with some clouds in the clear blue sky make you feeling that Great God Shiva is everywhere with tons of blessing to you. The trail will approach 13th century monastery of Dira-Puk. Visiting the Dirapuk monastery can be one kind of an insightful experience gifted in your Mount Kailash tour and trek Time to time the face of Kailash Parbat will be kept on appearing. Overnight at Derapuk.

Day 10: Trek Deraphuk to Zutulphuk (4760m/15612ft)
Today we cross a rocky expanse dotted with stone cairns draped with the clothes left as offerings by pilgrims who have come before us. Yamasthal should be crossed to reach the Shiva-sthal where Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati used to be stayed. After visiting Gaurikunda, one of the holiest sites on the trek, we ascend to Drolma La (5630m), the highest point of the trip. After spending some moments here we follow the trail that descends to the flat fields of Zutul-Puk which houses a monastery and several fascinating caves. The caves at this locale are most popular for meditation. Overnight at Zutulphuk.

Day 11: Darchen/Mansarovar Lake/Hor Chyu: 65kms 1/2 hrs
The trail passes through Bharkha plain leading to Darchen.  We then drive to the camping place in the bank of Lake Mansarovar called Hor Chyu.

Day 12: Drive to Paryang (4500m/14760ft) 277kms drive
We take a long drive to holy Paryang for overnight stop. This route penetrates the very essence of Manasarovar Lake amid extraordinary landscape.

Day 13: Drive to Saga (4600m/15088ft), 230kms drive
Today we drive from Paryang to Saga. We drive through wondrous valleys, several clean watered rills, amazing pasturages for yaks and sheep. A few hours of drive will finally brings us to Saga where we stop for the night.

Day 14: Drive to Nyalam (3750m/12300ft) 245kms drive
We start to drive from Saga to Nyalam about 245kms away which takes approximately four hours to reach there. We cross the Lalung La pass and drive over the sandy and rocky land of Tibet, along the famed Brahmaputra River  to reach Nyalam where we stop for the night.

Day 15: Drive to Kathmandu, 156kms drive
Take a great drive to Kathmandu enjoying the scenic landscapes and the magnificent view of high Himalayan ranges. A few hours of drive via Kodari (Nepal -Tibet Border) will bring us to Kathmandu where we stop for the night.

Day 16: Departure from Kathmandu
Your Mt. Kailash Tour has come to an end today. Today is free or last minute to enjoy in Nepal. If you have days left and ready for next trip then let us know. If not our representative will transfer you to the International Airport for your departure flight to your onwards destination as per your flight schedule, taking with us the memories of wonderful moments spend with us.

Your safety is our paramount concern whilst traveling with Himalayan Club. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, as this is adventure travel in remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee it! Weather conditions, health condition of a member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary.
