Haa Valley Trek


Haa Valley trek in Bhutan is one of the most popular and short trek in Bhutan. The Bhutan government has just recently opened this route for the trekkers. It is a short and scenic trek with panoramic views on Mount Chomolhari, some other Himalayan peaks and to the Paro Valley and the Haa Valley. This trek is also not too strenuous as walking distances between the camps are not too long. After this trek we will visit Taktsang Monastery (Tigers Nest), Paro Dzong and Ta Dzong in Paro and Tashi Cho Dzong in Thimphu.

Itinerary


Day 1: Arrival in Paro, transfer to Thimphu
Day 2: Paro - Taktsang Monastery (Tigers Nest)
Day 3: Paro - Dongney Tsho (3,200 m or 10,496ft) 3 hrs walk.
Day 4: Dongney Tsho - Chhutak Loompa (2,820 m or 9250ft) 6 hrs walk
Day 5: Chhutak Loompa - Haa - Bjenkhana – Thimphu (2,320m or 7,656ft) 3-4hrs

Detail Itinerary


Day 1:  Arrival in Paro, transfer to Thimphu
A super scenic flight brings you to the small valley of Paro. Upon your arrival in Paro you can have the impressive look of High Himalayan Rang. If the weather is clear you also can have the view of Mt.Everest. The landing, flying through the Paro valley between the 4000m high mountains, brings completely new experience on you. Our Bhutanese representative will welcome you and will assist to transfer you in your hotel in Thimpu. You may relax at your hotel or visit to the several places of Thimpu. 

Thimphu is the capital city of Bhutan situated on the banks of the Thimphu Chu and set gloriously in the hills of the Thimphu valley. The city is spread out longitudinally in a north-south direction on the west bank of the valley formed by the Wang Chuu, also known as the Thimphu Chuu River and is a home to the Bhutanese Royal Family, the Royal Government to several foreign missions and development projects. Thimphu, as the political and economic centre of Bhutan, has a dominant agricultural and livestock base and the culture of Bhutan is fully reflected in Thimphu in respect of literature, religion, customs, and national dress code. 

In the evening you can enjoy welcome dinner in the hotel restaurant in the heart of Thimpu meanwhile briefing about your adventurous trip will take place.

Day 2: Paro - Taktsang Monastery (Tigers Nest)
If you are tired then you can relax in your hotel. Today we hike to Taktsang Monastry. Although it was tragically and mysteriously consumed by fire in April 1998 it has now been restored to its former glory. It is one of the popular Monastery of Bhutan. Overnight at Paro.

Day 3: Paro - Dongney Tsho (3,200 m or 10,496ft) 3 hrs walk.
Today we take a drive to Drukgyel Dzong from where we begin our trek. The trail passes through BalaKha Chhu River which was an ancient Haa Planter’s trail. We further walk steeply upward through thick vegetation, and laughing thrushes, magpies, nutcrackers and pheasants are often seen. We finally reach Dongey Tsho where we stop for the night.

Day 4: Dongney Tsho - Chhutak Loompa (2,820 m or 9250ft) 6 hrs walk
On this day we follow the trail that ascends through mixed conifer forest and through loose gravels to reach Tego La Pass from where we can see Haa forming borders with Tibet and a good view of famous peaks such as Jhomolhari. A few hours of downhill walk finally brings us to Chhutak Loomopa where we stop for the night.

Day 5: Chhutak Loompa - Haa - Bjenkhana – Thimphu (2,320m or 7,656ft) 3-4hrs
After a hearty breakfast we tackle our last trek by crossing number of bridges finally reaching to the rough road where you will take a drive to reach the capital city of Bhutan, Thimpu.

Overnight at Thimpu.

Day 6: Thimphu
This is the rest day at Thimpu. If you are tired then you can relax in your hotel. Today we hike to Cheri Monastry which takes approximately 2 hours. Later you can stroll around on your own wish or you can explore the vicinity of Thimpu city. Further you can go for shopping if you like.

Day 7:  Paro, departure
Your Haa Valley trek has come to an end today. Today is free or last minute to enjoy in Bhutan. If you have days left and ready for next trip then let us know. If not our representative will transfer you to the International Airport for your departure flight to your onwards destination, taking with us the memories of wonderful moments spend with us.

Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, as this is adventure travel in remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee it! Weather conditions, health condition of a member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.
